Our 5th anniversary party in Brazil

American Pregnancy Newsletter - Gabi's development

How big is your baby?

Your baby is continuing to grow and most likely measures between 17 to 18 inches long and weighs 5 ½ to 6 pounds.*

What is happening with your baby?

The vast majority of your baby's growth is complete by 35 weeks. His/her kidneys are completely developed, and the liver is beginning to process waste. Because your baby has grown so much, you will notice that he/she will no longer be performing an aerobic workout. There just is not enough room for somersaults. However, this does not mean you will not feel your baby move. Her kickboxing routine should stay the same.

- o cerebro continuara desenvolvendo bastante.  Ela continua ativa mas ja nao pode me chutar tao forte!  Afinal, ela ja esta mais apertadinha...

Sonogram - 35 or 36 weeks??

After a long time, we finally got to see Gabi again!  Can you believe she is already ~6lb!  I need to lay off the nightly frozen yogurt!  She is developing well and gaining weight fast!  The last sonogram estimated her due date to be on August 25th!  The earlier ultrasounds calculated the due date on 8/28 or 8/27... Only God knows when she will come.  We just better be ready for her!  We are truly excited that she is almost here!

Our Hospital Selection- O hospital que escolhemos

The last few weeks...

As I am approaching my due date, we had to make some final decisions:  We finally decided where to deliver Gabi - the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, which is a very nice hospital and has the designation of being Baby Friendly (meets a set of criteria that favors breast feeding practices).  You can see an overview video of the hospital's maternity services by going to the website: http://www.texashealth.org/body.cfm?id=997 or by checking the You-tube video attached on the side.
I was fortunate to attend a Breastfeeding conference last week (mandatory for my work), which refreshed my memory on breastfeeding benefits, complications and trouble-shooting.  I learned much about current research and resources, and feel ready to do whatever it takes to breastfeed Gabi!  It is the best thing I can do for her!
Mariela is visiting us this week (she came earlier for a Mary Kay conference she has in Dallas) and is helping us prepare for Gabi.  Nelson installed 1of the car seats and we washed and organized Gabi's clothes, sheets, etc.  I finally packed for the hospital and made a time-line of what needs to be done in the next few weeks.
Nelson and I will be meeting with a Dula a few times in August who will practice some pain coping mechanisms with us.  So far, we think we will not have a Dula attend our birth for different reasons.
Gabi had her 4th baby shower!  The ladies at a Brazilian church, where I go for a Woman's Bible Study, threw her a beautiful shower that included a wonderful dinner and some fun games.  Mari came earlier so she could attend it with me.  I will post the pictures once I get them.

I will be going for my next sonogram on Wednesday.  My new doctor does not believe in having a sonogram each visit.  He did check my belly and told me how she is positioned and listened to her heartbeat.  I miss seeing her though and am looking forward to having an estimate of her current weight.   I am feeling well for the most part and have a huge appetite...  Please keep us in your prayers - That Gabi will come full-term (after 37 weeks) and that she is healthy.  I am also praying for the delivery - I hope to avoid a C-section!  I do trust God and know that He is in control and will be with us!

Obrigada.

8 meses/ 8 months

I have gained 20lb so far and have a huge appetite!  I need to control myself, especially when it comes to sweets!  I have been feeling well but get tired more often.  I am now exercising only 4 times a week bc I am much busier preparing for her arrival and for the delivery.

My work was very kind to throw me a surprise baby shower at our last staff meeting!  They decorated the room, ordered a very deliscious and beautiful cake, and gave Gabi very cute gifts.  My coworkers gave us a very generous gift card!  She is already spoiled with all she has been receiving.  A friend of the family, Mary Jo, mails her a cute outfit on a weekly basis!  She has so many adorable clothes - can't wait to see her wearing them.

Change of doctors/ Mudanca de medico

For various reasons, Nelson and I decided to change doctors and hospital last month.  I have been busy transferring all my classes and health record to the new provider.  We had our 1st appt. with him last Thursday and very pleased with him and the office staff.  He did a very through examination and told us that Gabi is already at the right position for delivery.
Now we need to choose the hospital:  Baylor in Carrollton or Presbyterian in Plano.  We toured the Baylor at Carrollton today and were very happy with the nurses and their effort to promote breast-feeding.  We will be taking some classes in the Presby at Plano and then making a final decision about the where to deliver Gabi.  We will keep you updated.  Please pray for us as make such decisions and approach Gabi's due date (August 31st).  I really hope she will be full term (38-42 weeks).  We plan to have her naturally if possible - no meds or intervention unless it is necessary.  I have been reading on how to prepare for pain management and we are enrolled for delivery preparation classes in August.

31 weeks, 31 semanas

At this point Gabi measures over 16 inches long and weighs about 3.3 pounds (as much as 3 navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt.  She's moving a lot, especially at night and after I eat. I can see my belly moving sometimes, it is very exciting.

At this point, we have most of the essentials for when she is born and have started organizing her room.  All her clothes are put up nicely in her dresser and closet (see picture),  She will be very well dressed!

We registered for birthing classes and started looking for her pediatrician.  I am preparing myself by reading a few birthing and baby care books.  There is so much to learn and to prepare!  She better not arrive earlier!

Espero q ela nao nasca adiantada!
